Now that you have your rental car sorted you’re going to want to explore Adelaide and its beautiful surrounds. It is also the host to many festivals throughout the year including the popular WOMADelaide and Adelaide Fringe music festivals.
Hang out with dolphins at Glenelg
A visit to the popular seaside suburb of Glenelg is good place to start exploring Adelaide. Located only 10km from the CBD Glenelg is Adelaide’s most popular beach-side region. There are many pubs and restaurants and the scenic foreshore is well worth a stroll. There are also some great ocean based activities to get involved in that depart from Glenelg. You could try some sailing, fishing or if you’re feeling adventurous you can go scuba diving or even swim with dolphins.
Check out Australia’s most renowned wine region
Adelaide has some fantastic wine destinations within an hours drive. The Barossa Valley is home to Australia’s oldest vineyards and is a roughly 40 minute drive northeast of Adelaide. The Barossa is home to vineyards from many of Australia’s biggest producers including the world famous Penfolds. The Barossa Valley is mostly known for its full-bodied Shiraz wines but also has sensational Cabernet Sauvignon and even Riesling. It’s not all just about the wine though! Make sure you get a taste of the local produce and the gourmet food that’s produced locally.
Hop over to Kangaroo Island
If you’re interested in seeing some of South Australia’s natural beauty and wildlife then head straight to Kangaroo Island. Take the 1.5 hour drive to Cape Jervis then jump on the ferry (with your rental car!) and enjoy the 45 minute cruise to the island. Once you arrive you’ll be immersed in some of the most pristine habitat Australia has to offer. Keep an eye out for Koalas, Kangaroos and Sea Lions!
Adelaide has so many great locations to explore. From the beach to the vineyards, it’s best to get there on your own terms with the freedom of a cheap car rental in Adelaide.
