Arriving at Sydney Airport
Sydney Airport is the only major airport servicing Sydney and it consists of 3 terminals T1 for international travel, T2 for domestic travel and T3 for Qantas domestic travel. T1 is separated from from the other terminals by a runway so you’ll need to allow extra time if you’re transferring to either of the domestic terminals. If you’re in a hurry you can catch the Airport Link train to transfer between the terminals. The journey only takes 2 minutes and costs $5 or you could take the T-Bus shuttle between the terminals for $5.50 (10 minutes).
Sydney Airport has some minimum connection times to take note of:
- Domestic flight to domestic flight: 30 minutes
- Domestic flight to international flight: 1 hour
- International flight to domestic flight: 1 hour 15 minutes
- International flight to international flight: 1 hour
Getting to Sydney CBD
Upon arrival at Sydney Airport you have several options to get from the airport into the CBD.

The drive from the airport into the Sydney CBD from generally takes around 20-30 minutes depending on the traffic and the time of day. Sydney Airport is the busiest in Australia with many workers commuting for meetings from other major cities. This creates a lot of traffic in the mornings and evenings during the week so be patient if you get stuck in a little traffic.
The next best way to get into the city is by train. You can jump on the train from both the domestic and international terminals and the trip takes just 15 minutes. The airport line also connects to the city circle train stations so you can easily access destinations across the CBD. If the train is not for you then there are many bus and shuttle services you can take from the airport into the city. The route 400 bus runs from Bondi Junction to Burwood with stops at the T1 and T3 terminals for more information on catching Sydney buses visit the Sydney bus website.
Another good idea if you’re staying in a hotel is to see if they have an airport pick-up service. Many hotels offer this service so it would be worth while to ring ahead and see if this is a viable option for you.
