Victoria is a spectacular state to visit and due to it’s relatively small size a great way to explore is by rental car. The most popular destination in Victoria and also the states capital is Melbourne. Melbourne is a sports fan’s paradise and is commonly referred to as “the sporting capital of the world”. Melbourne is also renowned for its restaurant and cafe scene. Any foodie will be in “food heaven” at many of Melbourne’s exciting restaurants.
Victoria is a diverse state with no shortage of beautiful beaches, mountains and lush bushland. The climate is quite variable and can get very hot in the summer and quite cold in the winter. A great time to visit Victoria and specifically Melbourne is around the beginning of November. The temperature is often a pleasant 25-30 degrees and this is also when the Melbourne Cup Carnival takes place. Horse racing is big in Victoria and given the chance to go to the Melbourne Cup we highly recommend it.
As far as great drives go, you can’t go past the Great Ocean Road. This 243km road is one of the most scenic in the country and is easily accessed from the city of Geelong. Famous for landmarks such as the 12 Apostles the Great Ocean Road is one Victorian drive not to be missed.
